GWI
incorporated in April of 1982. We
sold specialty lumber products, imported steel pipe and fasteners
for many years before focusing on our growing lumber business.
Our lumber department was set up as a lumber trading house
buying from lumber manufacturers around the world for delivery
to our customers. In 1993 GWI established its first overseas
office in Jakarta, Indonesia. A few years later another
Greenwood office was opened in Curitiba, Brazil. In 2002
we formed an office in Fuzhou, China. In a few short years,
our China arm grew into our highest producing overseas
office.
GWI has made substantial investments to
form joint ventures with our factories in China
to produce finished Chinese Cedar products. As
a result, GWI is now the largest producer of
Chinese Cedar spray primed and Jesso coated door
jambs and trim boards exported from China. In
addition to door jambs, GWI is also the largest
producer of Chinese
Cedar components for outdoor
playground sets.
Accredited
by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), we
buy plantation grown and harvested wood fiber whenever
possible in our effort to be good stewards of our world’s
forests. We import a variety of wood products such as door
frames/door jambs, door stops, S4S E4E boards and mouldings
as well as many specialty trim products. Our most common
species imported include Cedar, Pine, Agathis, Red Meranti,
Birch and Paulownia among others. Our products are a mixture
of natural, spray primed, Jesso primed, stained or painted
finishes.
